Bottle Cap Manufacturing

Bottle caps are an important element for packaging beverages and other consumer products. These lids preserve the freshness and sealing properties of beverages and ensure safe and hygienic storage of products. Bottle caps are an integral part of packaging, both functionally and aesthetically, and can increase consumer interest in the product.

Bottle cap manufacturing is a process that requires high precision and quality. The first step is to design the mold. The mold determines the shape and size of the bottle caps. The design is carried out using CAD software and 3D modeling techniques. In the mold design, sealing, ease of opening and closing and aesthetic details of the covers are taken into consideration.

Once the mold design is completed, the mold block is produced from durable materials such as steel or aluminum. The mold block is shaped using CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines and the mold parts are assembled. These parts are special components that determine the shape and details of the bottle caps.

After the mold is produced, PET plastic granules are injected into the mold. This process allows the molten plastic material to seep into the mold cavities and take the shape of the lids. After the cooling process, the mold is opened and the bottle caps are removed. In the last step, the caps are cut and separated.

Bottle caps are widely used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, cleaning products and other consumer products sectors, especially in the beverage industry. Colour, shape and size may vary depending on the brand and target audience of the product. For example, while simpler and more functional caps are preferred for water bottles, more aesthetic and eye-catching caps can be used for wine bottles.

As a result, bottle cap manufacturing is carried out in high quality and safely, thanks to carefully designed molds and high-technology machines. As an integral part of packaging, bottle caps play an important role in ensuring the safety, protection and consumer appeal of products.

How Is Plastic Bottle Cap Designed

The cap is fastened on the mouth of the bottle by fitting with the mouth of the bottle, which is to prevent the leakage of the material inside the bottle and the invasion of the outside bacteria. After tightening the cap, the top of the bottle goes deep into the top of the cap to the sealing gasket. The measuring groove of the cap and the thread of the cap are in close contact with each other to provide pressure for the sealing surface. Several sealing structures can effectively avoid leakage or deterioration of substances in the bottle.

The outer edge of the cap also has a lot of strip-like anti-skid grooves, which is easy to increase friction when opening the cap.

One: Two kinds of technology of plastic cap production
Compression moulding-plastic bottle cap production process

  • Compression moulding plastic bottle cap has no material mouth trace, looks more beautiful, processing temperature bottom, shrink, cap size is more accurate.
  • The upper and lower molds are closed and pressed into bottle cap shape in the mold
  • The cap is left in the upper mould, the lower mould is removed, the cap passes through the rotating disc, and the cap is removed from the mould in the counterclockwise direction according to the internal thread.

Injection bottle cap production process

  • The volume of the injection mold is large, and the replacement is troublesome. The pressure of each injection mold is large, and the heating temperature of the material is high, so the energy consumption is higher than that of the plastic cap compression molding machine.
  • The mixed material is put into the injection molding machine, and the material is heated to about 230 degrees celsius in the machine to become a semi-plasticized state. The material is injected into the mold cavity of the abrasive tool through pressure, and the mold is cooled and finalized.

Two: Anti-theft ring (ring) production

  • Careful you will find that the cap also includes a security ring (ring) part. It is in the production of a good plastic cap part and then through the cutting anti-theft ring (ring), a complete cap production was completed.
  • Anti-theft ring (ring), is a small circle below the cap, also known as a one-time breaking anti-theft ring, unscrew the cap anti-theft ring will fall off to stay on the bottle, through this can judge a bottle of water or a bottle of drinks is complete or has been opened.
  • The production of a good bottle cap face in a direction of the queue, sent to the ring cut, is a tooth ring cutting knife a pull, made by the point connected with the anti-theft ring .

How to Achieve Rapid Color Change in Bottle Cap Production

Compared with the traditional injection molding process, compression molding process is characterized by stable process, good quality uniformity, perfect product appearance and low energy consumption.

In fact, the compression molding process has a very big advantage that is often ignored by everyone, that is, the compression molding process of bottle caps in the process of changing colors is much simpler and faster than the injection molding process.

Comparison of color change between compression molding process and injection molding process and how to achieve fast color change.

In the traditional injection molding industry, most of the injection mould is to use the needle point hot runner, the die is not only expensive, but hot runner complex internal structure, the molten plastic is easy to adhesion in internal corner and side wall place, turn color want to sort out the internal residual color is very difficult, often requires a lot of time and materials to do waste cover, turn color cost is very high.

It may be suggested that recycling materials should be used to clean the hot runner for the purpose of saving materials. However, we should not forget that recycling materials cannot be 100% clean. Even if there are very small particles, the needle point in the hot runner will be blocked in the gate.

Moulding process for forming process is simple, the plastic melt through the extruder after directly after the nozzle into the mold, there is no complex into the adhesive system, it is for the color conversion of absolute advantage, on the injection molding process of needle point into the gate and its size is about 0.5 mm, slightly careless leads to gate jams, therefore, 95% of the manufacturers can't add a recycle material, the molding process of the size of the nozzle is usually about 10 mm, no congestion, all in the recovery is expected to add overwhelmingly use molding process and advantages.

After comparing the advantages of injection molding and compression molding in color rotation, we further discuss how to give full play to the advantages of the printing machine in color rotation.

Usually, after receiving the order, the production planner needs to have a clear concept in mind, which is to follow the principle of color similarity as far as possible when the delivery date allows. The color should be changed from light to dark, and avoid from light to dark, which brings great convenience to the color transformation. Here is a simple example:

In factory workshop, we will have an area special place different colors of recycled materials, these recycled materials dedicated to turn color applications, in an order, before the end of the recycling material with next order color to get out and placed at the edge of the machine, hopper under observation window, after an order on raw material basic consumption immediately clear when the feeding system and bin, after the completion of the manual to join the next order color recycle material, now need to open the exhaust mouth, waste production machines run continuously turn color cover, after waiting for cap color normal open normal feeding system, the whole mould check cap quality normal after normal production.Through this kind of operation method, compression molding machine can usually achieve color rotation without stopping, very fast and convenient.

After long-term statistical data of bottle cap production, the comparison of injection molding and compression molding costs in color conversion and addition of recycled materials is obtained in the table below. It can be seen from the table that the advantages of compression molding process in color conversion cost are very significant.

In the production industry of bottle caps, the advantages of compression molding technology are more and more valued in the industry, and the traditional injection molding technology is gradually replaced by compression molding.
